Why Do we Feel Burnout?

 

 

 

 

 

Burn out. It’s everywhere.

Quiet quitting. That’s everywhere, too.

But why?

Even those who seem to have it all together are treading water.

Is it the time of the year?

Could be, I suppose, but I’m inclined to say no. I was reading about burn out and quiet quitting over the Summer months. Aren’t those supposed to be rejuvenating months?

So what could it be?

I think most of us have forgotten to believe in the possibility of what’s next.

We’re complacent. We make just enough money. We do just enough to get by. We’re on autopilot & continuing to do things the way we’ve always done them.

And that’s all good and fine, until it’s not.

Until that little voice is nagging at you to do something more.

Until you feel no gratitude or joy when you hit a goal.

Until you feel unfulfilled and it spills over into every aspect of your life.

And that my friends is a recipe for burn out.

So how can we start to believe again?

Picture the person you want to be and start living it.

Do you want to be the person who gets up before work and completes a workout?
Set your alarm early tomorrow and build that habit.

Do you want to be more patient with your kids?
Notice what you’re doing in the moments you lose your patience with them, are you trying to multi-task, are you not present in the moment, did you read a work email that distracted you? Set boundaries and continue to work at it.

Do you want to be a better leader?
Invest in yourself. Hire a mentor or a coach. Read leadership books.

Elevate to where you are called to go.

At surface level, burn out and quiet quitting appear to be just about our jobs.

But I’d argue it’s much deeper than that.
